What is the iPhone 18 Pro? Apple's 6.3-inch flagship for 2026, built around the A20 Pro — Apple's first 2-nanometre chip — with a 48MP Fusion Main camera that introduces variable aperture to iPhone for the first time. It runs iOS 27 and ships in four finishes.

What makes the variable aperture camera different? This is the headline change. Six laser-cut blades physically move between four aperture settings, adjusting depth of field and light intake the way a real camera lens does. Until now, every iPhone had a fixed aperture and simulated background blur in software. This is mechanical.

You can leave it automatic or take manual control through a new Pro controls panel that also exposes shutter speed, white balance and a live histogram. Apple has opened an API so third-party camera apps can drive the aperture range directly.

How fast is the A20 Pro chip? It is Apple's first processor built on a 2-nanometre process, with a 6-core CPU split into 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, plus a 6-core GPU. Apple has added a second Neural Engine, positioning this as its most capable on-device AI hardware to date.

Does it run hot under load? A redesigned thermal system with a vapor chamber moves heat away from the processor far more effectively than previous generations. The practical result is sustained performance during long video recording, gaming sessions or exports, rather than throttling after a few minutes.

How long does the battery last? Up to 36 hours of video playback on the eSIM-only model. Removing the physical SIM tray freed internal space for a larger cell, adding roughly two hours over a tray-equipped equivalent. Charging reaches 50% in about 15 minutes wired, or around 30 minutes wirelessly.

What changed with the Dynamic Island? It is physically smaller, and now displays three Live Activities simultaneously rather than one. If you track a flight, a delivery and a timer at once, all three stay visible without switching between them.

What colours does it come in? Four: black, silver, glacier (blue) and burgundy (red). Burgundy is new this generation and is typically the first finish to sell out.

What storage options are available? 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. The base tier is 256GB — Apple no longer sells a 128GB Pro model.

Is it eSIM only in the UAE? Yes. UAE iPhone 18 Pro models have no physical SIM tray and activate by eSIM only. Apple supports two active eSIMs and storage for eight or more. If your current number is on a physical SIM, arrange a transfer with your carrier — you cannot move the card across.
